Blinks at the sun

Sorry I haven't been feeling terribly communicative of late - I guess the old black dog has been sniffing around and has outstayed his welcome. RL stuff has been getting me down for various reasons - I was hoping to get back to the UK this month to give my family a good talking to, but it looks like I won't be able to go now until August. Oh, well. they'll have to wait.

On the plus side, I have begun modding at OWL, under annie's eagle eye.
I have completed a chapter of Epiphany. Won't be posting it on any archives until I've done the follow up chapter though in case I need to edit. (It is up on my IJ comm but under a flock :)

Oh, and if anyone can tell me why a cd refuses to format (I'm trying to do a back up disk) I'd be glad of the help.

Porn and matter of self-cofidence

Did anyone see the programme last night on channel 4 about sex education versus porn? I only saw the last 15 minutes or so of it. The premise of the programme was about how exposure to pornography on the internet at a young age affects attitudes to sex.

I've had a reasonable couple of days, creatively-wise speaking. Almost finished the epilogue for What goes around, but the ending just won't gel. I've tried several versions, none of which i'm very happy with. It's just so frustrating when I know it's only a paragraph or two off completion.

And while I remember, I've a question for the technically minded. My browser for some reason has stopped accepting any cookies (lj etc have to log in everytime i switch on, despite asking it to remember me) I haven't touched anything I'm aware of to change it. Firefox tools regarding cookie acceptance is the same as it's always been.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

pondering pronunciation

Having been mentioned on [info]snapecast here it has occurred to me that people with no knowledge of French wouldn't have a clue how to pronounce my nom-de-plume.

So. It's not 'mel-ooo-zin' it's 'mel-ooo-zan'

In other news, the last installment, minus the epilogue, of what goes around is almost ready to post, thanks to the ever prompt [info]septentrion1970 I'd hoped it would be ready for valentine's day, but it was not to be.

have a good week, dear flist!

Regency Ramblings

There was an interesting programme on the telly last night about fashion through the ages, made in the '50s and narrated by a woman with a very plummy voice. It concentrated mainly on how impractical the clothing worn by the wealthy has generally been - the more high-maintenance/more movement is restricted signifying how little the wearer has to do. I had always thought the simple dresses worn in the Regency period gave a brief reprieve to women from strict corseting and voluminous skirts, but far from it. Apparently they didn't last half a day before needing washing and pressing. Fashionable women also wore muslin versions all year round - which must have been freezing in winter and, while I'd always associated them with revolution, that was far from the case. They fitted in with the fashion for classical architecture - so, as usual, women were merely ornamentation, flitting about in flimsy frocks to give the illusion of living goddesses within Greek temple inspired country houses. You learn something new every day, as they say.

I've also had this idea for a crack regency fic which is on a constant spool in my head at the moment. Put down that bunny, Mr Darcy, this instant.
