pondering pronunciation

Having been mentioned on [info]snapecast here it has occurred to me that people with no knowledge of French wouldn't have a clue how to pronounce my nom-de-plume.

So. It's not 'mel-ooo-zin' it's 'mel-ooo-zan'

In other news, the last installment, minus the epilogue, of what goes around is almost ready to post, thanks to the ever prompt [info]septentrion1970 I'd hoped it would be ready for valentine's day, but it was not to be.

have a good week, dear flist!

Regency Ramblings

There was an interesting programme on the telly last night about fashion through the ages, made in the '50s and narrated by a woman with a very plummy voice. It concentrated mainly on how impractical the clothing worn by the wealthy has generally been - the more high-maintenance/more movement is restricted signifying how little the wearer has to do. I had always thought the simple dresses worn in the Regency period gave a brief reprieve to women from strict corseting and voluminous skirts, but far from it. Apparently they didn't last half a day before needing washing and pressing. Fashionable women also wore muslin versions all year round - which must have been freezing in winter and, while I'd always associated them with revolution, that was far from the case. They fitted in with the fashion for classical architecture - so, as usual, women were merely ornamentation, flitting about in flimsy frocks to give the illusion of living goddesses within Greek temple inspired country houses. You learn something new every day, as they say.

I've also had this idea for a crack regency fic which is on a constant spool in my head at the moment. Put down that bunny, Mr Darcy, this instant.

Also, can someone tell me why I can't get an image from photobucket onto this journal? It simply won't work.

Not much of a rant and a rec

Judging by the amount of comments on various journals I've seen lately, it seems I'm not the only one who is sick and tired of Doormat!Hermione. I'm finding it all rather depressing. But anyway, somilgiana's The Silvering Divide has restored my faith somewhat. It's a wonderful story and is now complete on OWL

Christmas wish list

Potter place readers kindly put two of my stories on their wish list for updates before Christmas.

needs must banner

I hope to get What Goes around finished by then, but I can't see me finding the time for Needs Must, I'm afraid.

Thanks also to southernwitch for making all the individual banners for each story mentioned.

Was also saddened to see that Illusions has gone - there were so many of my favourite snapey pictures on there ~sigh~

Oooh...

Had a lovely surprise in the post this morning. [info]juniperus sent me some BPAL imps. I have been mostly wearing Mag Mell and sniffing my wrists compulsively all afternoon. I'm looking forward to trying the others - I can see me becoming addicted quite easily.
In other news, my wood burning stove has been connected at long last, so we now have a source of heat in the evenings.

On the beta front, I've had my first ss/hg exchange fic through, which was both unusual and excellent - I think the recipient will be chuffed with it.

Also Sylvanwood's A most Important Element in Water is hotting up - lovely smutty chapter will be up soon.

My own writing is continuing to be rather turgid - just can't seem to get into my stride at all. Even writing drabbles is like pulling teeth. Everything seems like too much of an effort. Hope it passes soon...

A feelgood fic...

A month or so ago, [info]sylvanawood and I challenged each other to write a feelgood fic - the fact that smut got involved is purely coincidental. My offering was A Mutually Beneficial Arrangement.

The first chapter of her riposte 'The Vibrator the Witch and the Painting' can be found here I just love it!

Needless to say, both are NC-17.

Note to self.

Never start a WIP again without proper planning and making copious notes as you go along.
I am not JK rowling and therefore cannot get away with it.
